The children forming part of the Khet programme belong to families with serious financial problems. Life in the mountains is extremely hard given the climate and the poor state of the soil for agriculture. The small village of Khet has not even an access road.

Given this isolation, the population has only scanty opportunities to receive education or medical attention; distances are great and costs are high. While for the families it is hard to be separated from their offspring, especially when they are small, parents will not allow their children to live in the village and prefer to have them travel to wherever they will get help, as is the case with these boys and girls.

Thanks to the generosity of Lama Thubten Choden who has been collecting donations and aid, the children have travelled to the South of India where he lives to receive education and the board and keep they need. The Khet programme guarantees the continuity of this project so that these children can continue to study and, in the future, find work and so help their community. The Programme consists of 2 groups: children from Sera and children from Ooty.
